Moor House Farm – Case Study

Situation

A cavity wall is a great way to insulate your home. This reduces heat loss and makes your home warm in the winter and cooler in the summer. The challenges with this project involved the extraction of the current poor-quality cavity wall. If the cavity wall insulation isn’t installed correctly, this can lead to dampness and cold spots, especially if the insulation doesn’t cover the full wall. The benefits of the work done on this home are the reduced heating costs and having a more energy efficent home.

Activity

We inspected the wall through a borescope by drilling holes into the external wall, then we used mineral wool to fill the cavity wall, and then sealed the holes. Here is why we did this:

  • Purpose – This reduces heat loss through external walls, trapping the wall air and preventing circulation within the cavity.
  • Suitability – Caity wall insulation requires a cavity width of at least 50mm, good condition masonry and walls not exposed to driving rain.
  • Property Value – Investing in cavity wall insulation can increase the value of your home.

Results

Cavity wall insulation (CWI) aims to reduce heat loss through a home’s walls, leading to lower energy bills. It works by filling the inner and outer walls with insulating materials, this acs as a barrier to heat transfer. Operations Director Adrian Veitch says, “Installing cavity wall insulation is quack and easy way to reduce heat loss to the home and energy costs.”
