West Park Farm – Case Study

Situation

We worked on this home in Durham to reduce energy costs through loft insulation measures. By adding 100mm insulation to existing energy efficiency measures in the loft, we have increased the energy rating and warmth in the home. Some of the challenges with this project included the access and egress, as well as working at height. Insufficient insulation thickness can cause moisture problems and can reduce the effectiveness of the insulation.

Activity

We use Knaug Loft insulation Roll 44 for this project. This is an excellent thermal protection, sound installation and fire-resistant. Benefits included:

  • Ventilation – Insufficient ventilation can cause a build-up of condensation and moisture, which can damage the insulation and possibly cause mould.
  • Benefits – A quarter of the heat is lost through the roof from an uninsulated loft. Insulating your loft is an effective way to combat heat loss and reduce your heating bills.

Results

The system has increased the warmth and energy efficiency of the home, alongside reducing the energy bills for the homeowner. The carbon footprint of the home has also been improved. Operations Director Adrian Veitch says, “By increasing the thickness of the loft insulation, we will have improved the warmth of the home and reduced energy bills for the homeowner.”
